Artist Statement

My artwork is inspired by nature, growth, movement and organic material. As a printmaker, I create many textures using a variety of mediums and techniques which include: monotype, collograph, collage, encaustic, etching, lithography, and direct printing. My work represents life in many different forms, however while the images may be recognizable, they are not designed to depict true reality. It is my intent to maintain the appeal of abstract art and to leave each piece up to the viewers’ interpretation.

Breakthrough
20" x 30" Direct Monotype on Wood Panel

Breakthrough was a breaking point in my printing style where I came across a new process of printmaking, in which did not use the printing press at all. I call this Direct Monotype because the ink is rolled directly onto the paper in multiple layers using brayers and stencils. I actually discovered this process through cleaning my stencils on newsprint. I liked the way the ink was wiped off of the waxy stencil material and onto the newsprint in an overlapping pattern. When I realized that I wanted to frame my newsprint, I decided I had to start experimenting with real print paper!
